Sherita Tartt, LPC, NCC, MSMFT
Sherita Tartt is a Licensed Professional Counselor with a MS in Marriage and Family Therapy. Mrs. Tartt has 15 plus years of experience in the field of case management and psychology. Mrs. Tartt currently works for the court system as a Drug Court therapist where she provides group and individual therapy for Dual Diagnosis, Heroin, Cocaine and Opioid addicted clients.
Mrs. Tartt has committed herself to working with Veterans, men, women and young adults in the world of addiction. Mrs. Tartt feels that when a person who is addicted can deal with the primary issue of what has caused the addiction, or even deal with issues that may cause them to relapse or have a disruption while in maintenance of their sobriety, it allows the individual to better heal and have better insight on why they drink or use.
Mrs. Tartt uses Solution Focused Therapy and Motivational Interviewing techniques and other interventions such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and art therapy to assist the client in their journey back to a healthy level of functioning.
Therapeutic Interventions*
Solution Focused Therapy builds on the client's strengths, enhances positive feelings and instills hope. Solution-focused therapy allows the client to build off of future goals so that they can move forward.
Motivational Interviewing in substance recovery, assists those who have become motivated to change the behaviors that are preventing them from making healthier choices. It is very goal-directed and client-centered.
Art Therapy in substance abuse recovery specifically allows the individual to voice out loud through their painting what their addiction looks like to them, were they would like to be inside of their recovery, and precipitating factors that may have contributed to their substance use. It also allows the individual to peel back layers and uncover those things that continue to haunt them while in their maintenance phase of recovery. Art therapy helps the individual to explore their emotions, improve self-esteem, manage addictions, relieve stress and improve symptoms of anxiety and depression.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a way to help individuals identify self-defeating thoughts and behaviors which may often drive addiction. CBT addresses harmful thought patterns which help clients recognize their ability to practice alternative ways of thinking and regulates distressing emotions and harmful behaviors.
